Recent Earthquakes.
1. Most earthquakes occur on the edge of the Pacific Ocean.
2. The reason most earthquakes occur there is because most faults are there.
3. This area is called the Circum-Pacific Belt, which better known as the "Ring of Fire".
4. The earthquake closest to North Carolina occured in southeast Missouri.
5. An earthquake occured on September 3 at 1:28:59 UTC in southeast Missouri. UTC is the international time zone. The magnitude was 2.7. The depth was 5.8 miles. It occured on the New Madrid Fault.

Real life example of mass movement!
This is a picture from Chiapas, Mexico. Someone inside a helicopter has taken this picture after a mudslide. The mudslide has left 16 people missing, feared dead. International aid is being sent to help this village and the other villages affected by the heavy rains. Even the capital is struggling from the rains.
